For the first time ever! All four Frank the Hamster books in one thrilling volume, yes the best selling hamster series brought together at last! Featuring: Frank (of course) and his motto is “Courage!”
His hamster friends: Mabel the Bad, George the Timid and Elsie the Very Tidy
Their owners: Guy, Tania, Jake and Josh, and Lucy
Their enemies: Mad Vince, Evil Marcia and The Strange Humming Hamsters of Urr
And of course the very famous and very mysterious Black Hamster of Narkiz
There are four ‘Frank’ books and the series as a whole explores the relationship between hamsters and humans, and Frank’s quest to find a territory in which hamsters can live wild and free. Frank lives at number 13, Bright Street, with his human, Guy. Bright Street is a short row of terraced houses which faces an area of waste ground known to the hamsters as The Wild. There are three other hamsters on Bright St. Mabel, who lives next door to Frank, is a large, white hamster who is something of a show-off, and her two cubs Elsie and George live at numbers 3 and 5 respectively. Some of the humans on Bright street, such as Guy, and Lucy, Elsie’s Owner, are kind and take very good care of their pets, others such as Jake and Josh, who live with George, either forget about him or play with him a little too enthusiastically, which turns him into a nervous, timid hamster. Other humans are definitely enemies, exploiting hamsters for their own greed.
The number 13 is important to the hamster race. Can you spot how often this number crops up in the series?
The four books are also about Frank’s developing relationship with the mythical being known as the Black Hamster of Narkiz, who represents the time when hamsters lived wild and free. Each of them, however, is a self-contained story in its own right.
The ‘Frank’ series is suitable for readers aged 7 to 11. Frank and the Black Hamster of Narkiz was shortlisted for the Banford-Boase Award. The books are published by Puffin and cost £4.99.
