Succession is the first of a trilogy about the Wars of the Roses, and specifically about Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII, and of the Tudor dynasty.
Married three times by the age of fourteen, Margaret Beaufort gave birth to her only son at the age of thirteen. She lived through the reigns of six kings and the period of civil war between the Houses of Lancaster and York. During this time she moved from being a pawn to a player.
Succession uses extracts from original sources, (chronicles, letters, ballads), to help to recreate the history of the 15th century as it was lived at the time.
‘Has the colour and power of the best of the chronicles she uses.’
